Building Information Modelling (BIM ) methodology is increasingly penetrating into building design. It will also lead to an inevitable increase in the demand for BIM modelling in the existing building stock. A point cloud is a set of data points within a coordinate system. The points defined by x, y and z coordinates in 3D space, represent the outer surface of an object. These points are plotted using a 3D scanning process.  The 3D map of points is then imported them into specialist software which can interface with our 3D building modelling systems.  The precision and accuracy of the point cloud mapping system ensure that it is an extremely useful tool to digitally represent existing conditions. It creates a “real world” depiction of what’s going on with our site, so there is no guesswork or time-consuming hand measure-ups needed.
